After visiting Nagasaki, Kyoto, Osaka, and other places, studied herbalism under Tamura Genyu in Edo.
Thrived as an herbalist, Gesaku writer, and Joruri writer. Introduced the Elekiter (static electricity generator), oil paintings, and other forms of Western culture. Demonstrated his brilliance by presenting fireproof cloth, Gennai ware, Gesaku, and Joruri puppets.
