Miyakonojo pottery 都城焼

Miyakonojo ware is pottery made in Miyakonojo City, Miyazaki Prefecture. Its origin dates back to 1781, when a domain kiln was established and started producing Miyakonojo pottery.
After transitioning from Miyamare ware and Komatsubara ware, Utsuno Shintaro opened the current Miyakonojo ware at full scale in 1974. Ever since, they have wanted to produce pottery while making the best use of the nature in Miyakonojo. So, they were very careful about choosing their materials, which drew attention to their pottery, locally and internationally. (Komatsubara ware were in Miyakonojo at first, but they have since moved to Miyazaki City.)
