Became a painter of Kutani ware based on an invitation from the Kutani ware porcelain shop Nishikino Shoten in Terai, Ishii around 1877-1887. Created works under the artist name of Hakujuken.
Had excellent technique among painters and is said to have endeavored to nurture numerous painters.
