Shodai pottery 小代焼

Shodai ware is pottery made in northern parts of Kumamoto Prefecture, such as Arao City.
It is traditional pottery that has existed from the Kanei era, in the Edo period.
It is made of Shodai clay, which has high iron content, and is known for its simple, powerful style.
A delicate coloring technique is used to create blue, yellow, and white Shodai by adjusting the glaze’s mix ratio and the firing temperature.
