Noritake "1904" Heritage Collection Pedestal Tea Cup and Saucer, Roses and Raised Gold, Bone China, Japan

A cup on a stem. That's the first thing people notice. The bowl sits on a small flared foot, like a wine glass that decided to be porcelain, and the handle is a gilded loop with a little scroll under it.

Around the outside, a band of red speckled with gold, framed in raised gold scrollwork with a medallion at the front. Inside, a single yellow rose that appears when you finish your tea. The saucer has a pink rose and a yellow one, and the same red and gold ribbon border.

Made by Noritake, Nagoya, from their 1904 collection. The line borrows from the designs Noritake was exporting to America a century ago, when a lot of Japanese porcelain was being made in Western shapes for Western tables. This is that look, remade with modern bone china and modern gold. Thin walls, light in the hand, and the gold hasn't dulled.
